The Department of Political Science of Krishnagar Women’s College had its inception in 1958. The department of Political Science today offers a three- year Undergraduate General Course. This department started further offering a Specialized Honours Course with enhanced fees structure since the year 2003 with the capacity of 50 seats. In the first year of this enhanced course offering, the number of students admitted was three.

The Department of Political Science offers Political Science as a General subject along with the following Honours subjects like Bengali, English, History, Sanskrit, Philosophy and Economics.

Two full-time posts were created and sanctioned in this department initially, which was filled by two full time teachers namely Santa Sarkar and Hiranmoy Bandyopadhyay. Post Hiranmoy Bandyopadhyay’s retirement, the vacant post was filled by the new Assistant Professor Mrs. Molly Ghosh in the year 2001. After retirement of Santa Sarkar, the vacant post was filled by Assistant Professor Mrs. Baijayanti Ghosh in the year 2008. In the year 2011 Molly Ghosh left the department and college. The vacant post was filled by Assistant Professor Ruth Reah Khan in the year 2014.

Achievement of Department of Political Science:
The Political Science Department of Krishnagar Women’s College has regularly embarked on an enterprising drive to organize many events and symposiums in helping spread awareness about the subject to its wards.

  • The department of Political Science in conjunction with the Bengali department had organised an UGC National Seminar on Rastro Samashya: Bangla Sahitya-in the year 2013 in September.
  • The department organised many Special Lecture Sessions where multiple eminent academicians have been invited to speak on various specialised topics relating to political science.
  • The department organizes on a regular basis workshops and departmental seminars relating to various specialised topic of Political Science.
  • The method of teaching is imparted combining a mix of digital and offline platforms. For digital platforms, the department uses a smart online classroom-based teaching methods and the offline platform involves manual classroom and black board-based teaching methods.
  • Every year the department of Political Science organizes Educational Excursion for the students to help widen their horizon about the discipline.
  • For the financially weak and unprivileged students, the department organizes regular tutorial classes.
  • The department of Political Science also conducts students' seminars to increase the self-confidence and communication skills of the students and to help them face interviews with improved confidence.
  • This department also conducts UGC funded National Seminars annually.
  • The department encourages students to contribute more frequently to the Departmental Wall Magazine to enable students to express their thoughts and ideas for a more wholesome development.
  • In 2018, the Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) was introduced. Teaching on CBCS system is continuing with one regular Assistant Professor and one Guest Lecturer. The numbers of Honours Students are following -
    • 2nd semester =32 students
    • 4th semester = 24 students

and the

    • 6th semester = 18 students.

The Department of Political Science & History also had organized Web Lecture Series on 30/9/2020. Four Special Lectures (3 Offline and 1 online) was organized by The Department of Political Science in April 2022.
An educational movie screening was organized in April 2022 for the students.

During this pandemic of COVID-19 the department of Political Science has
regularly conducted online classes to help maintain continuity of studies. The department has also conducted special lecture classes online during this period.
