An Overview of the Department
The Department of History is one of the oldest Departments of the College. The Department launched its journey as General subject. It obtained approval for introducing History as Honours subject in 1903. The Department adopts bilingual mode of teaching thus benefitting students from both English and Bengali medium background. It’s aims to equip and empower students with relevant knowledge, competence and creativity to face global challenge. The Department places special emphasis on regular assessment of a student progress. Students are encouraged to present short seminar papers and group discussion in the Department. They are also encouraged to attend various National, International level Seminars/Webinar, Debate, Quiz Competition etc. Special lectures, Departmental Seminars, Educational Tour and various Educational and cultural activities are regularly arranged in the Department. In every year Department publishes its own Wall Magazine ‘Prathama’. Many students of this Department are placed in various fields in the country.
